Early Life

Gernot Rohr was born on June 18, 1953, in Mannheim, West Germany. He is the son of Philipp Rohr, a former German football player. He holds German nationality and regarding his ethnicity, he is Caucasian. He was raised in his hometown Mannheim and since his childhood  days he has been highly involved in sports. 

Rohr is a former footballer who spent most of his football career playing with the French professional football club Bordeaux as a defender. He is also a former team member of Bayern Munich, SV Waldhof Mannheim, and Kickers Offenbach.

Gernot Rhor managed Girodins de Bordeaux to the UEFA Cup final where he lost to Bayern Munich in 1996. He was fired following a third place finish in the league by Etoile Sportive du Sahel, failing to be in the CAF Champions League , on 15 May 2009. On 9 June 2009, he was named as the new head coach of the Ligue 2 team FC Nantes, and n 21 February 2010, Rohr replaced French coach Alain Giresse at the helm of the Gabon national football team.

In September 2012, Gernot Rhor became the Niger National Football Team manager. He resigned in October 2014. On 22 December 2015, he was sacked by Burkina Faso national football team as manager.

In August 2016, Rhor was named manager of the Nigeria national football team, he lost his first match on 10 June as Nigerian senior coach after a 2–0 home loss to South Africa.

He led Nigeria National Team to become the first African Team to Qualify for the 2018 FIFA World  Cup on October 7 2017, after a 1-0 win against Zambia.
